Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the issue of the national character of law in the process of harmonization with European law. Law is distinguished from the cultural values of a nation, which in every people are characterized by uniqueness and resilience. The historical development of law shows that peoples of different cultures and religions may possess similar legal systems. This study explores the attitude of the Georgian people toward legal values in a historical context. It reveals the tendency of Georgian law toward supra-nationality. The country’s sovereignty is presented in the context of fundamental rights. The issue of the national character of law in the process of drafting the Civil Code of Georgia is considered separately.
